Wine and Food Affair
Friday, April 16, 2010 7:00 p.m. Woman's Forum
$60.00 per person, limited reserved seating (Casual cocktail attire, please)
The intimate and elegant affair kicks off the festival at the historic Woman’s Forum. The event begins with a “blind” wine tasting pitting a Texas wine against a California wine. Test your tasting skills. Can you taste the difference? A full meal will follow featuring award winning wines from the state of Texas guaranteed to stir one’s palate. Whether you are a wine aficionado or a novice sampler, the Wine and Food Affair will be an experience you won’t want to miss.
The scrumptious cuisine includes:
Artichoke, Cherry Tomato and Feta Salad with Shallot Dijon Vinaigrette accompanied with Pesto Crostini
Pinot Grigio, Llano Estacado Winery (Lubbock, Texas) This is a fragrant wine with fruit aromas characteristic of melon, lemon-grapefruit. This wine balances nicely on your palate and shows flavors consistent with the aromatics. It is a light, crisp, fruity, yet dry white wine. Honors: 2009 Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo Silver Medal and 2008 Lone Star International Wine Competition Bronze Medal
Peppercorn Encrusted Beef Tenderloin Medallions with a dry White Wine Sauce Sweet Potato Gratin Sautéed Haricot Vert with Caramelized Onions Croissant
Iconoclast Cabernet Sauvignon, Becker Vineyards (Stonewall, Texas) This is the number one selling wine at Becker Vineyards. The cabernet has black cherry notes, raspberries and is a popular, easy drinking wine. Honors: Iconoclast Cabernet Sauvignon was featured in Bon Appétit (Feb. 2009). Additionally, Becker Vineyards was featured in Food & Wine (Dec. 2008), and Wine Business Monthly's "Top 10 Hot Small Brands (in the USA)" (Feb. 2009)
Poached Pear with Seasonal Fruit Compote
Pinky Tuscandero, Los Pinos Ranch Vineyards (Pittsburg, Texas) Pinky happily tours the back roads on her scooter, wind in her hair, and her cheeks flush with the kiss of anticipation. She is the adventurer, a blushing bride wine that tastes of sweet cherries with a dash of orange zest! Honors: 2009 Grapefest Wine Competition Silver Medal and 2009 Red River Wine Festival/Festival Favorite

Entertainment for the evening will be provided by Mr. Jeff Sneed, Vintner extraordinaire, from Los Pinos Ranch Vineyards in Pittsburg, Texas (http://www.lospinosranchvineyards.com).
Jeff came from California to Texas to plant a vineyard and build a winery. An architectural engineer with a 20 year winemaking passion, he read everything he could get his hands on about wines and vines. Planting vines and making wine during the many trial and error experiments, and a lot of tasting trials, honed his winemaking skills. Ultimately, this all led to the land that is now home to Los Pinos Ranch Vineyards in East Texas.
According to Jeff’s founding philosophies, wine should not be a pretentious endeavor. Wine is a gift from God, meant to be shared with family, friends and food. For that very reason, Jeff and everyone at the vineyards, has been busy making Los Pinos Ranch Vineyards the ‘funest’ winery in Texas!
